Grounded Sole Project

We're surrounded by nature, yet we only observe it from behind glass. Whether that's a phone screen, windows, or a windshield, we have removed ourselves from something that is so crucial to us as humans. That's the problem I wanted to solve with my concept project. The Grounded Sole Project is a kiosk like design that would be located at parks and trails to encourage people to spend more time in nature. The kiosk would have different challenges that could be done on the trail and would reward you for completing each one. It would be a way to help people spend more time in the outdoors and give them something fun and challenging to do with their friends and/or family.
THe project
This was created as a school project with the goal to design something to solve a social issue. This project included the physical device design, branding, screen design for the device, and an animation explaining it. I additionally created a 3D model as well as a 3D print for this assignment.

THe Process
I started with the problem of trying to get people outside more and engaged with nature. From there I developed the concept of having a kiosk that would be located at state and local parks with challenges to do while hiking. The user could create an account, and start keeping track of their completed challenges as well as select new ones to do. The Kiosk would also work like a regular one with a map and leaderboard that the user could access without an account.
